“I remember when he walked into that hospital room, he shakes my hand and looks me dead in the eye and he said: “Tom, whatever you need, we are here for you.”

In November 2016, St. Louis Police Officer Tom Lake was sitting in his marked patrol car when he was ambushed & shot twice in the face at point blank range.

Lake was immediately rushed to the hospital where he received life-saving treatment. Just a week earlier, Eric Greitens had been elected as Missouri’s 56th Governor. As Tom Lake recalls, the Governor-Elect was among the first to come visit him in the hospital but that was far from the last time the two would meet.

In the months and years following the ambush— and still to this day— Eric Greitens and Tom Lake stay in touch.

Today, nearly 5 years later, retired officer Tom Lake announced his endorsement of Greitens for Missouri’s open US senate seat in 2022.

“I remember when he walked into that hospital room, he shakes my hand and looks me dead in the eye and he said: “Tom, whatever you need, we are here for you.”

In the video announcement, Lake says, “Then a week later he calls back. It just became common place. Here I am— I’m just a lonely ol’ citizen. I pay my taxes, I go to work, and I try to stay under the radar… and I have the Governor of the State of Missouri calling me, checking on me.”

Greitens has also been publicly endorsed by Sergeant Ann Dorn, widow of Captain David Dorn, who was killed in St. Louis during civil unrest in 2020.

Lake calls Governor Greitens a “champion for law enforcement” and credited Greitens for coming to the front lines in support police officers as Governor.
